A Few True Things

Lynn Flournoy is a pen name I use because I have a day job, and I prefer to keep my writing life separate from my work life. If you know me in the real world, it probably won’t take much effort to connect the dots.

I’ve been writing since elementary school. In high school, I mostly wrote angsty poetry, some of which was even published. I took a long break from writing while raising my kids, and for a long time I told myself that season was simply over.

Turns out it wasn’t.

I’m finding my way back to words slowly and imperfectly. I love new hobbies but I think my real hobby is collecting hobbies (or at least collecting the supplies for them). Writing has found its way back into that mix, except this time I’m trying to let it stay.

My long-term goal is to write a book. For now, I’m starting small: this blog, a Substack account, and an Instagram account for Lynn Flournoy Writes. I’m learning as I go, changing my mind often, and trying to be honest about all of it.

On a more personal note, I’m a middle-aged mother of two grown boys, married to my high school sweetheart. Our house is full of dogs and one cat who are not remotely interested in being emotional support animals. I work in mental health, so that perspective will occasionally show up here as well.

This blog is not a place for polished advice or finished answers. It’s a record of me figuring things out in real time. If you’re also in the middle of something—becoming a writer, returning to yourself, or just trying to make space for creativity again—you’re very welcome here.
